We're counting down the days until March of the Machine, Magic: The Gathering's upcoming expansion that will bring the Phyrexian invasion to the multiverse's doorstep. But before Phyrexia's ravenous hordes unleash oil, bone, and claw, we've got some tantalizing previews to get through, including one that mentions the return of Eminence as a keyword.
Just like head Magic designer Mark Rosewater did a few days ago, Good Morning Magic's Gavin Varhey has a few cryptic hints at what to expect from the new cards coming in March of the Machine's five Commander decks. The colors and themes of these decks have already been previewed at MagicCon, but now we know that at least one of these cards will feature Eminence, a keyword we haven't seen since Commander 2017.

For those who need a refresher, Eminence can be found on four Legendary creatures: The Ur-Dragon; Inalla, Archmage Ritualist; Edgar Markov; and Arahbo, Roar of the World. The ability keyword remains in effect so long as the card is on the battlefield or in the Command Zone, making these cards ideal commanders for creature-themed decks. For example, The Ur-Dragon makes all dragon spells cost one mana less, while Edgar Markov makes 1/1 vampires whenever you cast a vampire spell.
Each of the Commander 2017 had a single card featuring Eminence, so it seems likely then that each of the five Commander decks from March of the Machine will similarly have an Eminence legendary creature. Perhaps one for Phyrexians, artifacts, knights, and tokens, although what creature type would have Eminence for the Divine Convocation deck's convoke theme is anybody's guess.
