There's an easy way to skip right past one of the hardest dungeons in , and it's not even technically cheating. The gameis full of challenges, from 's toughest bosses to its most obfuscating puzzles. However many roadblocks it might throw in the party's way, it seems like there are always alternate ways to solve them. Talking one's way out of a dicey situation, pushing a powerful enemy into a chasm, or casting to get past a platforming challenge — all are valid approaches, and can help avoid frustration.
Still, while some alternate solutions were apparent from the very start, players continue to find weird exploits and act-skipping tricks. One of the hardest dungeons in the entire game seemed safe, however, until just recently.
As pointed out by @clancadera on X (formerly Twitter), players can skip 's Gauntlet of Shar simply by casting on the giant door at its end. Encountered in Act Two, the Gauntlet of Shar contains some of the hardest puzzles in . It consists of four different trials, each testing the party's prowess at a particular aspect of the game.
First, there's the Soft-Step Trial, a stealth and lockpicking challenge. Then, there's the Self-Same Trial, in which each party member must duel an exact copy of themselves. The Leap of Faith trial involves an invisible maze. Finally, they can choose either to kill or save Yurgir.
The Silent Library puzzle isn't strictly necessary to completing the Gauntlet of Shar, but it does grant the Spear of Night. This is not just a decent melee or thrown weapon, but also a vital ingredient for a certain path in Shadowheart's personal quest.
Each trial is difficult and time-consuming in its own unique way. But after each one, the party claims an Umbral Gem. They'll need one Gem to activate an elevator, and three more to open the door it leads them to. Behind that door is an inner sanctum, where the party comes to some serious revelations about the Nightsong. Doing so is strictly necessary in order to progress past Act Two.
