Valve's Steam Deck may be getting its wildest accessory yet, consisting of an actual gun stock that the handheld PC can be mounted onto. Whereas the majority of companies making gadgets and attachments for the Deck have opted to launch cases, carrying bags, and other similar bits of kit, some of them seem to be considering riskier, more out-of-the-box ways of leveraging the device's many features.
Since Valve has always wanted the community to use the Steam Deck as a starting point for their own tweaks and mods, it's not overly surprising to see the myriad of companies that jumped at the chance to throw their own hat into the fray. Whereas VR itself isn't all too viable an option due to the Deck's relatively low-powered hardware, there do seem to be some potentially curious alternatives after all.
Unofficial Steam Deck Utilities Plugin Gets Massive Performance Gains With New Update
Those who'd like to enjoy novelty multiplayer gaming on the Steam Deck can now order the aptly named Steam Gun, which consists of a custom plastic controller embedded into a two-handed weapon grip, with the Deck itself attached to the top-mounted rail system. The Steam Gun relies on the Deck's powerful gyroscopic capabilities, allowing the player to aim as if they're using an actual firearm. This does seem to help a fair bit with immersion, according to the company's own promotional materials, but it's worth pointing out that the user still needs to use regular joysticks to move around, mainly relying on gyro for fine aim movements.
