In just the first quarter of 2023, we have found out more about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 than Qualcomm would have liked, and according to the latest specifications leak, which is massive, we learn the company will take a different CPU configuration approach, plus other details. Here is more information that you would love to read about.
Unfortunately, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will not make use of TSMC’s 3nm process, as Apple was previously reported to have secured the entire supply for its upcoming A17 Bionic and M3 chipsets. Instead, Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC will likely be manufactured on the same 4nm architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is not a bad thing, though it does mean that in terms of pure efficiency metrics, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will lose to the A17 Bionic quite easily.
Also, Qualcomm may opt for a ‘1 + 5 + 2’ CPU cluster instead of the ‘1 + 2 + 2 + 3’ it adopted for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. What this means is with the efficiency cores reduced, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could be focused on delivering more performance when it starts powering Android flagships next year. What is strange about this bit is that just a few weeks ago, we heard that the same ‘1 + 2 + 2 + 3’ CPU cluster was going to be maintained for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
With the upcoming SoC, we should also be greeted by the new Adreno 750 GPU, with the entire CPU configuration provided below. Just so you know, the Cortex-X4 is said to be running at 3.20GHz, which is interesting to read, because we previously reported that this super core could be operating at 3.70GHz. It is possible that the higher-clocked version may be reserved for the Galaxy S24 family next year.
