New set photos from The Old Guard 2 offer the first look at the movie's returning cast and a new character. Based on Greg Rucka's comic book of the same name, The Old Guard is Netflix's superhero saga that centers on a group of immortal mercenaries with regenerative healing powers. Starring Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the first movie premiered in July 2020, with critics praising its knockout action sequences, inclusive storytelling, and subversive take on the superhero genre.

Rucka, who also wrote the first movie's screenplay, had a good idea for a sequel, and it's being suggested that The Old Guard 2 will be based on his second graphic novel, The Old Guard: Force Multiplied. One significant change the sequel will see from the first film is that Lovecraft Country director Victoria Mahoney has replaced director Gina Prince-Bythewood. The Old Guard 2 production made a significant step forward as a new image from the movie's location indicates that filming is now well underway.
