Barbie Set Photos Show First Look At Margot Robbie With Mystery Character
New images have arrived from the set of the upcoming Barbie film that show Margo Robbie alongside a mystery character played by America Ferrera. The live-action adaptation of the famed Mattel doll stars Robbie in the titular role alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken. They'll be joined by a cast that also includes Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, and Issa Rae.
Aside from its cast, perhaps what’s most exciting about Barbie is that it was written by acclaimed filmmakers Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig, with Gerwig directing. The film will mark Gerwig’s third solo directorial outing, with her previous two efforts, 2017’sLady Bird and 2019’s Little Women, finding considerable acclaim. In fact, Gerwig received Oscar nominations for both films, with Lady Bird resulting in her first (and only to date) best director nomination. Given this degree of praise, the idea of adapting something as seemingly frivolous as a Barbie movie has made some naysayers dismiss the film early on. However, to do so is to sell the creative potential of Gerwig, Baumbach, and the cast extremely short.

Audiences still have just over a year to wait until Barbie arrives in theatres, but the past several months – and in particular the past several weeks – have offered small but steady glimpses at what can be expected from the film. The most recent look at Barbie comes courtesy of the Film Updates Twitter account, which offers some brand new images from the film’s set. In the images, Robbie can be seen as Barbie alongside America Ferrera as a mystery character not yet revealed to the public. Check out the images below:
