New set photos from Barbie offer the first glimpse at Will Ferrell's mystery character. Based on the eponymous fashion doll line by Mattel, the upcoming Barbie live-action movie is being helmed and co-written by Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig. Development on the movie dates as far back as 2009, back when Sony was overseeing. Later, WB took over the production, enlisting the DCEU's Harley Quinn actress, Margot Robbie, to play Barbie. Gerwig subsequently joined the movie in 2021, and only months later, Ryan Gosling was cast as Ken, Barbie's male counterpart. Barbie is set for release in July 2023.
Barbie stands as one of the most anticipated films of next year, though little has actually been revealed about the project. Plot details remain scarce, and outside of various set photos and videos, the internet has been left to speculate about what Barbie will entail. Outside of Robbie and Gosling, the film features an impressive cast that includes America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, and Ferrell, among others. Ferrell's casting in Barbie raised some eyebrows, and the fact that his role largely is a mystery has only increased intrigue.
