Based on the popular Mattel toy of the same name, Barbie is directed by Oscar-nominee Greta Gerwig from a script written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. The film, which is expected to release in 2023, was reported to be in development as far back as 2014, but it was only recently that production on the project got underway when Warner Bros. took over production duties from Sony. Plot details for the anticipated film are currently being kept under wraps.
Although details regarding the film's story have yet to be officially released, photos from Barbie'sset have been making the rounds recently on social media, with fans finally getting a first look at various aspects of the film. Prior to the film entering production, however, Barbie's casting announcements were widely reported, especially the reveal that Ryan Gosling would portray Ken, Barbie's counterpart. In addition to Robbie and Gosling, Barbie features an impressive cast, including the likes of Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Nicola Coughlan, and Kate McKinnon, among others.
