No game does discourse quite like the Insomniac Spider-Man series. So it's no surprise that the sequel to a game that gave us "puddlegate" is back at it again, giving us another daft, inconsequential drama to laugh about before launch. Because - and strap yourselves in for this - Spidey's suit looks kinda different.
You heard me, there was a slight change to an asset during development. Someone get the class action lawsuit filed. With Spider-Man 2 just a few weeks from launch, some fans are already complaining that the suit's textures have been downgraded too much, just like the infamous puddles in the first game. Does Insomniac know no shame?

As we see with many games in development, visuals get tweaked and even downgraded slightly to make sure everything runs smoothly. Of course, when you're shipping the entire game, it's more demanding than chucking a CG trailer together.
Spider-Man 2 is no exception, even if it is a PS5 exclusive. As you can see in the comparison shot below, there is less detail in Peter Parker's usual suit now, compared to the shiny, detail-heavy one we were shown before. The change isn't too dramatic, and not something that would be noticed in gameplay. Well, you'd think so, anyway.
Twitter user @sharjok highlighted that this could be the next puddlegate, and he was absolutely correct. In the replies to his tweet, fans already complain that "all of his textures" have been removed. One even says he's been "turned into a Fortnite skin." Other comments say that anyone defending the new suit is "dick slobbering" Sony, and other colourful images like that. Just your usual console war lines really.
