A new video promoting the Sonic and Lego collaboration is full of inside jokes for fans and even makes fun of some of the more eccentric types in the community. In the video, the camera keeps cutting to a fake livestream chat full of Sonic fans, and their messages reference everything from dissatisfaction with the games to the desire for a Big the Cat body pillow.
Fans were quick to notice the messages since they're hardly hidden away. In plain sight, we can see the official Sonic account make fun of the various characters that make up the playerbase, including those who like to flex their series knowledge, and the ones that are just there because they fancy the characters.
In the replies, you'll see fans share the wild comments they found in the video, but here are a few of our favourites:
Yup, whoever put this video together knows the Sonic fanbase very, very well.
In defence of the Sonic community, Sega is egging us on with the title of one of its upcoming games: Sonic x Shadow Generations. C'mon, how else are we meant to interpret that? Fans got to work fast, getting it tagged as an LGBTQ+ game on Steam, just as it should be. It's still listed as one at the time of writing, which is beautiful. You've got to love this fanbase.
Thankfully, many Sonic fans have gotten quite good at making fun of themselves, so it looks like this is being taken in good faith. Recently, they were dunking on themselves over how excited they are to see Maria die in the next Sonic movie, so we're definitely self-aware of how odd we must look to outsiders. Between that and the Sonic Generations re-release, we're in for a wild year in the community - especially for fans of Maria kicking the bucket since she'll probably die in Sonic x Shadow too.
