Tech startup Nothing has confirmed the official launch date for its first smartphone. Nothing is a new consumer electronics brand launched in 2020 by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. The company started by launching a pair of TWS earbuds last year before announcing plans to launch its first smartphone. However, not a lot has been officially confirmed about the upcoming Nothing phone (1), apart from it will run on Nothing OS based on Android.
Even though smartphone sales have grown exponentially over the past decade, the choice at the premium end of the market remains confined to a handful of brands, such as Apple, Samsung and OnePlus. With LG and HTC no longer making smartphones and Sony greatly reducing its presence in the market, smartphone buyers often complain about a lack of choice, especially in the premium segment. However, with Nothing making an entry this year, many expect greater choice and, with a little bit of luck, maybe better pricing for flagship phones.

According to a Nothing Twitter account tweet, the Nothing phone (1) will launch on July 12 at 4 p.m. U.K. time (11 a.m. ET). The company will unveil the device in London at a live event called 'Return to Instinct' that will also be live-streamed on the company's official website, Nothing.tech. The company has also set up a notification option that enables users to enroll in its email newsletter to get notified when the event is underway. The company is calling the phone (1) its most important product, but other than that, it has been playing its cards close to its chest, having revealed precious little about it until now.
