Lime Tests Citra Electric Motorbike in Long Beach
As US gas prices reach historic highs, Lime is urging Californians to ditch their cars and ride in style with the new Citra electric motorbike.
The hybrid bicycle/e-scooter launched this week(Opens in a new window) in Long Beach as part of a pilot program and is aimed at long-distance commuters and city dwellers. Citra trades pedals for a throttle, and marks Lime's first vehicle to feature dedicated storage space (in the form of a sealable rear compartment).
"We expect riders to quickly fall in love with Citra as the vehicle combines the comfort and practicality of a bike with the effortlessness of an e-scooter," Lime president Joe Kraus said in a statement. "Citra is the perfect way to save money on gas, avoid time wasted in traffic, and alleviate the headaches of hunting for parking this summer and we're excited about its potential."
Taking a safety-first approach, the transportation company designed Citra with front and rear turn signals, a louder horn (instead of a traditional bell), thicker tires, and a phone mount for easier navigation. Lime also continues its tradition of swappable batteries and reusable parts, which help to prolong the vehicle's lifespan while reducing carbon emissions. As to why Lime opted to pilot Citra in Long Beach, apparently it's because of the " great riding environment," according to senior operationg manager Scott Jackson.
