Nobuo Uematsu Tentatively Commits to Scoring Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy's Next Theme | Push Square
Legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu will compose the central theme for the as-yet-unnamed third game in Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, tentatively committing to the job after being put on the spot by Rebirth director Tetsuya Nomura.
In a conversation posted to the Square Enix Music Channel (thanks, VGC), Uematsu, Nomura, and writer Kazushige Nojima sat down to discuss the music the series is famous for, particularly «No Promises to Keep», Rebirth's main theme. Putting the master maestro on the spot, Nomura asked: «Since you worked on the first and second game in the series, it stands to reason that you must come back for the third. Not that we've made it official yet, but I'd like to believe you're a lock for the next title? You'll do it, right?»
Uematsu laughed, but Nomura wouldn't be put off: «Again, this isn't an official statement or offer. Just a gentleman's agreement, maybe? You will come back for the third game, right?» Finally, Uematsu relented, committing at least to tentatively return: «It'd be my honour.»
Pushing his luck, Nomura asks: «Are you up for the challenge, though? [It's] going to be hard to surpass the songs you've already composed for us. What are you going to do?» Nomura replies: «For starters, I'm going to take a vacation.»
«I don't think I have the physical and mental strength to do it anymore»
Uematsu recently said that he thinks his days of scoring entire games are probably over as his long and storied career winds down.
