Nintendo has released its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2025. It confirmed that the Nintendo Switch has sold 143.42 million units worldwide, with 2.1 million units sold in the three months ending June 30th, 2024.
However, unit sales for the console have dropped 46.3 percent year on year, with software sales, which reached 30.64 million units in Q1 fiscal year 2025, dropping by 41.3 percent. The company noted that the same quarter last year was exceptional due to The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
This year’s first fiscal quarter comparatively lacked such “special factors.” Of course, the console is in its eighth year, and given that the next iteration has been announced, with Nintendo to reveal it by March 31st, 2025, it makes sense that sales would slow down. A release date for the Switch successor is unknown, but rumors claim it could launch in March 2025 (with Pokemon Legends: Z-A potentially arriving alongside it).
