It's expected that the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 (or whatever they decide to call it) will be revealed and release at some point this year. Rumors and comments from leakers have been piling up over the past couple of years, so much so that it would be astounding if Nintendo doesn't reveal its Switch successor in the next 12 months. Industry analysts appear to be of the same opinion.
Speaking with Gamesindustry.biz (thanks VGC), industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto of Katan Games believes that the next piece of major hardware from Nintendo is nailed on to drop at some point in 2024. He also predicts that the system will be a little more expensive than the first Nintendo Switch back when it launched, coming in at around $400, with Nintendo games also expected to rise to $70, which is steadily becoming the industry norm.
A more expensive Nintendo console isn't that much of a shock, especially if it has visuals on par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X like a recent report suggested.
Another one of Toto's big claims is that the next piece of Nintendo hardware will be an "iteration rather than a revolution", and will be very similar to the current Nintendo Switch with a few bells and whistles attached. That wouldn't be too surprising given the Switch's success, but it would buck Nintendo's recent trend of experimenting with their home consoles like we saw with the Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo Switch.
Toto also claims that the next Nintendo console will continue to focus on portability, claiming that the Pokemon series being "associated with handheld gaming" is one of the main reasons.
