Nier mobile game Nier Reincarnation shuts down in April, Square Enix has announced.
Nier Reincarnation is a 2021 free-to-play role-playing game for Android and iOS that spun off from the main Nier series.
The Nier Reincarnation story concludes with the release of the Finale: Reincarnation update on March 28, with the app service itself going dark on April 29.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our players for your patronage over the 2.5 years since we launched on July 28, 2021,” Square Enix said.
Square Enix said it will continue to add content and characters, as well as hold various events and campaigns, “so we hope you will continue to enjoy Nier Reincarnation until the end.”
Blockbuster hit Nier: Automata is approaching its seventh birthday, with no new mainline game so far announced by Square Enix. In November, Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito said that while Nier chief Yoko Taro is alive, they will release a new entry in the Nier series at some point.
Action RPG Nier: Automata launched in 2017 and wowed critics and fans with its beautiful locations and zany, fun-filled combat. It was a surprise breakout hit for Square Enix, and went on to sell an impressive 7.5 million copies. There have been many crossover events since, various Nier-related promotions, and a remaster of the first game. There's even a Nier anime.
