Based on the post-apocalyptic demolition-derby-style combat video game franchise Twisted Metal, Peacock is bringing vehicular mayhem to a brand-new TV adaptation. The series stars Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Brave New World) as cargo driver John Doe, Will Arnett and AEW star Samoa Joe helm the voice and body of diabolical clown Sweet Tooth, Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as the mysterious Quiet, and Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as Agent Stone.
We've only seen some of the world at large, but Peacock dropped a new rated-R trailer today that finally gives context to the story and what fans of the Twisted Metal games can expect. Check out metal and mayhem below.
Mackie's John is a delivery driver that takes cargo from territory to territory, trying to survive this new chaotic world. We don't know much about Beatriz's Quiet except for her taste for violence and profanity-riddled vernacular.
Aside from Sweet Tooth, John Doe, and Stone, there are other Twisted Metal characters at large including Chelle Ramos as Jamie Roberts, who was one of the drivers for Outlaw-2 in the video game. Neve Campbell will play Raven, with Tahj Vaughans and Mike Mitchell playing the duo Mike and Stu, respectively, who drove Hammerhead in the game.
The video game series has appeared on the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 3. As of October 2000, the series has sold five million copies, with several of the games in the series being re-released as part of Sony Greatest Hits.
The show will be helmed by Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith (Netflix's Cobra Kai).
All 10 episodes of Twisted Metal will hit the streaming
