With a little more than a month for the release of Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy on 31st August, Frozenbyte and publisher THQ Nordic have released a new trailer that puts the steadfast hero Pontius the Knight into the spotlight.
Dubbed the Protector of the Realm, Pontius is a portly chap, but still a reliable and trusty hero to lead the line with sword and shield in hand. That shield is pretty darned useful for a lot of the game’s puzzles, thanks to being able to reflect light, redirect streams of water, and bounce away incoming projectiles. But it’s also got some other tricks in Trine 5 with the Kiteshield letting Pontius glide down to ground and shield sliding to skim across damaging sludge.
Pontius has a charge ability and stomp, as well as a boomerang-like sword throw, and then has special abilities like Flight of the Knight, the shadowy doppelganger Prismatic Talisman, Shield of Light to damage from afar and create a jumpable platform.
As always, Pontius will be joined by Amadeus the Wizard and Zoya the Thief in Trine 5, off on another side-scrolling 2.5D adventure with co-op puzzling and complimentary abilities at its core. The game will work with up to four players in both local and online co-op, with the game adapting the puzzle difficulty and adapting to the number of players.
Some of the above abilities will likely be tied to the new skill quest system in the game, and we’ll have to wait until Amadeus and Zoya’s respective videos to see what they can do.
Trine 5 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on 31st August 2023.
