Star Wars has revealed Palpatine had a secret dark side servant in the sequel era - but she might actually have been introduced six years ago. The period directly leading up to the events of the sequel trilogy still remains largely undeveloped, with it only being explored in a handful of comics and novels. But Lucasfilm is about to give readers their best look yet at this largely-unexplored time, in Adam Christopher's Shadow of the Sith. Scheduled for release on June 28, 2022, it will tell the story of Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian's quest to find the Sith redoubt Exegol.
A recent excerpt from Shadow of the Sith has introduced Palpatine's mysterious Sith cultist, an as-yet-unidentified blue-skinned woman who has bonded to an ancient Sith mask. The intriguing excerpt left more questions than answers; it didn't even give this cultist a name, although Lucasfilm execs took to Twitter to reassure readers this is a character who they've encountered before. At the same time, though, they've also noted new readers won't need any backstory to make sense of her. These curious hints have naturally led to intense speculation as to this Sith cultist's true identity.

One possibility is that she is a woman named Kiva. Introduced in Chuck Wendig's Aftermath: Life Debt, Kiza was a member of a group called the Acolytes of the Beyond. Established by one of Palpatine's loyalists after his supposed death, the Acolytes of the Beyond venerated the Sith, and scoured the galaxy looking for dark side relics. The best account of their doctrines was given in Secrets of the Sith, an in-universe book supposedly derived from the Emperor's own notes. according to Palpatine,
