Jordan Peele's latest film Nope takes on the sci-fi tropes of classic UFO movies of the past, and while the project has had some interesting teasers, the latest trailer spells out the plot maybe all too well. Nope follows residents of a small town in Southern California who witness a mysterious and abnormal event and a brother and sister out to profit from capturing footage of the event.
The trailer debuted this week that shows OJ and Emerald Haywood, played respectively by Daniel Kaluuya, who became a breakout star with Peele's first feature Get Out, and Keke Palmer as their small ranch gets visited seemingly by aliens. You can check it out below.
Building up to the hype of the film, the marketing started with the release of the teaser poster in July 2021, and first-look images in February 2022 were followed by a trailer that aired during Super Bowl LVI. The spot was praised by critics for creating the suspense Peele had become recognized for, all the while keeping the storyline under wraps.
The new trailer sheds light on the plot and actually confirms that there will be UFOs visiting the planet, but compared to Peele's other trailers, especially for Us, it really goes into what we're dealing with here. We see Keith David as OJ and Emerald's father dying and how it's possibly connected to the visitors and the rules of alien abduction including how they can't take you if you don't look at them. Just really interesting in the styling he used here in cutting the spot compared to Us and even Get Out where there was still an air of mystery. Then again, the biggest swerve could still be unseen.
Along with Kaluuya and Palmer, Nope stars Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott, Wrenn Schmidt, Keith David, and Donna Mills.
