Xiaomi 12 Lite launched: Uses same chipset as Xiaomi 11 Lite NE but gets other upgrades

Xiaomi 12 Lite is here and will succeed the much-hyped Xiaomi 11 Lite NE from last year. As the name suggests, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is essentially an affordable variant of the Xiaomi 12 Pro flagship and based on the design, it certainly seems so. The phone looks a lot like the Xiaomi 12 Pro from its outer design, except for the boxy design theme that seems to be all the hype these days. The phone has currently been announced only in Europe and it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi brings the phone to our shores.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite comes in three variants, starting with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage that costs $400 (approximately Rs. 31000), There’s also a 8GB/128GB variant as well as a top-end 8GB/256GB variant, with prices going up to $500. The phone is available in Black, Pink and Green colours. The phone is largely the same as its predecessor, except for a couple of changes to bring it on par with midrange phones from Oppo and Realme.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite relies on the Snapdragon 778G chipset, which is exactly the same one that powered its predecessor. Hence, those coming from the older model may not seen any performance improvement. However, the chipset could allow Xiaomi to position this phone as a rival to the much-hyped Nothing Phone (1), which will use the beefed-up Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. The phone could also go up against the Oppo Reno 8.

While the chipset stays the same, the display gets a major update. The phone gets a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, and the panel still supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The upgrades are also applied to the camera setup. The main camera is now a 108MP Samsung HM2 sensor with a f/1.9 lens. This is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera.
