An update is arriving for Microsoft’s Xbox consoles that promises to make them boot up a little faster.
The company has created a new load screen for the Xbox Series X/S systems that now lasts only five seconds long, down from nine seconds. On Twitter, Microsoft marketing manager John Munsee confirmed(Opens in a new window) the new load screen, saying it should help “reduce the overall startup time.”
The company has already been rolling out the new load screens for Xbox systems on the beta “Insider(Opens in a new window)” builds, which caused some users to notice.
However, the new boot up screen will only appear if your Xbox console is in the “energy-saving mode,” according(Opens in a new window) to The Verge. The energy-saving mode will completely shut down your Xbox when you’re done playing. That’s in contrast to the “instant-on mode,” which leaves the console running on a low-power mode, preventing a complete shutdown. When you return to the Xbox, it’ll then start back up in a few seconds.
In the energy-saving mode, an Xbox Series X/S usually takes about 20 seconds to fully power back on and resume operations. But with the new load screen, you can expect the boot up time to only take 15 seconds.
Hence, the faster load screen may make the energy-saving mode more appealing to Xbox owners currently on the instant-on mode. The new load screen will also go beyond the current generation Xbox consoles, and is coming to the older Xbox One, which should boot “noticeably faster,” according(Opens in a new window) to Xbox Senior Product Managing Lead Jake Rosenberg.
