Despite being in development for roughly 14 years, Beyond Good & Evil 2 might still eventually happen, as the game has recently secured a new Lead Writer. That’s the first sign of life in years, considering that the game hasn’t been treated to any updates or reveals recently.
The current version of Beyond Good & Evil 2 was officially announced at E3 2017. Back then, game director Michel Ancel (who eventually left Ubisoft a few years later) shared the first gameplay demonstration and confirmed that the original vision for a Beyond Good & Evil sequel was scrapped. Instead, the new iteration is a prequel to the events of the original game. Genre-wise, it is now an expansive RPG with an emphasis on space exploration.

According to an inventive announcement on Twitter (spotted by PCGamer), Beyond Good & Evil 2 now has a new Lead Writer — Sarah Arellano, whose portfolio also includes work on World of Warcraft, the upcoming Saints Row reboot, and Vainglory. Arellano’s addition to the team is another sign of life for the game after Ubisoft was looking for a Senior Gameplay Animator for Beyond Good & Evil 2 in May. Ubisoft’s spokesperson confirmed the fact of Arellano’s hiring after being contacted by PCGamer. With a new Lead Writer on board, the company’s promise to deliver the best possible experience might actually be kept. Unfortunately, there’s no other information or further elaboration on the topic. The good news, though, is that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is definitely still in development, which solidifies Ubisoft’s interest in making the game a reality someday.
