Despite rumors that a new Nintendo console is on the horizon, recent reports suggest that the Nintendo Switch isn't a dead console yet. In fact, there may be over a dozen finished Nintendo Switch games from major franchises due to be released this year.
As reported by , regular Nintendo leaker Zippo has claimed that these titles could include two new mainline titles, unannounced games, and several more unannounced remasters that are due for release this year. Another highly anticipated title mentioned as part of Nintendo's 2024 catalog was , which was originally announced on June 13, 2017, only months after the Nintendo Switch's original launch.
On January 25, 2019, Nintendo announced that development on had been restarted, and there hasn't been any official news surrounding the title since. There had also been speculation that the title was being reworked as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title (via ). There's the possibility that there will still be a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game upon the console's launch, but if Zippo's claims are correct, it's unlikely it will be a next-gen exclusive.
The main reason behind these new rumors is that Nintendo has opted to delay the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. While the console has yet to be officially announced in any capacity by Nintendo, previous reports seemed to point to a release in the latter part of 2024. This has changed within the last week, however, with numerous credible sources claiming that the Nintendo Switch 2's release date has been pushed back to 2025 instead. If so, this will mean the Nintendo Switch will be entering its eighth year on the market by the time Nintendo's new console is released, which will be longer than the average duration of most console generations.
