The rumored Final Fantasy IX remake will be very different from the Final Fantasy VII remake project in terms of scope and budget, according to rumors.
Speaking on X/Twitter, new leaker Silknigth, who proved their reliability recently by revealing the time frame for the Ghost of Tsushima PC port announcement, talked about the rumored remake, saying that the remake will be as faithful as possible to the original and more modest than the Final Fantasy VII remake in terms of budget.
While the Final Fantasy IX remake has supposedly been in the works for a while, the insider is now aware of any change made to the project over time, noting only how it was planned for Nintendo Switch, and the project may have been scaled up for the next Nintendo console. Unfortunately, it seems like we won't be hearing anything about the game for a while.
It is strange to hear that we are not going to see the Final Fantasy IX remake anytime soon, as another reliable insider said last year the game looked ready for release. The fact that it is coming, however, is not in doubt, as the game was revealed alongside other Square Enix projects in the massive GeForce NOW leak, and most of them were either released or officially confirmed.
Thankfully, those who have never experienced Final Fantasy IX don't need to hunt old copies of the game, as it is available on PC via Steam, all current consoles, and even smart devices.
