The sequel to Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part One is finally nearly upon us. In the past week, we've finally seen new characters like Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) and teasing the arrival of Baron Harkonnen's son, Feyd (Austin Butler) equipped with his dueling daggers. There was even new footage at this year's CinemaCon that showed Paul (Timothee Chalamet) ascending to his destiny as Muad'Dib.
Warner Bros. released a new poster Tuesday, showing Paul and Chani (Zendaya) together on Arrakis with a sunset behind them. Paul is posed in an ancient salute like Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) had taught him while Chani is looking down.
The tagline «long live the fighters» is a Fedaykin phrase, mainly used as a battle cry. This phrase is taken straight from the first book, but not exactly in those words. In the book, they are spoken in a different language and the translation is in text through Lady Jessica's own thoughts.
In the book, Paul can hear people cry «Ya hya chouhada! Muad'Dib! Muad'Dib! Muad'Dib! Ya hya chouhada!» Long live the fighters of Muad'Dib. Fans might remember in the 1984 adaptation--which was extremely condensed--Paul (played by Kyle MacLachlan) says this in English.
Dune: Part Two arrives in theaters on November 3, 2023.
