Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy reveals new "spoiler-ish" story details for season 1 of the upcoming Star Wars show on Disney+. As a prequel to Rogue One, Andor is set five years before the events of the film and follows Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion. Diego Luna returns to lead the Andor cast as the titular rebel spy alongside Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, both reprising their roles from Rogue One. Andor also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller in undisclosed roles.
Lucasfilm first announced the Andor series in 2018 with Luna set to reprise his role and The Americans alum Stephen Schiff hired as showrunner, though he was replaced by Gilroy before filming started in 2020. Outside of being brought on to Rogue One to punch up the film via reshoots, Gilroy is an accomplished screenwriter and director known for Michael Clayton, Duplicity, and The Bourne Legacy. His presence on Andor helps make it one of the most anticipated Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. Though it does not yet have a release date, those involved with Andor have begun to tease the show's scope and scale.

Gilroy says the show starts with a "simple, almost film noir" premise with Cassian as a "skeevy kind of guy who gets in big trouble trying to sell something to save his ass" and as a result, is recruited by a rebel talent scout.
