Sarah Drew teases what viewers can expect from Jackson and April's story in the Grey's Anatomy season 18 finale. April and Jackson (Jesse Williams) have long been a fan-favorite couple on the show. Both characters joined Grey's Anatomy in season 7 as part of a storyline where their hospital, Mercy West, merged with Seattle Grace. Soon after, they started a romantic relationship, though it became fraught with drama over the next several seasons. Jackson and April eventually have a daughter and get married but their relationship ultimately ends in divorce.
Drew exited Grey's Anatomy in season 14, with her departure explained by April reuniting with her ex, Matthew, and leaving Grey Sloan to help those struggling with homelessness in Seattle. When Williams left the show in season 17, Drew returned as April for one episode. April shared that she and Matthew separated, leading Jackson to ask her to move with their daughter to Boston for work. April and Jackson's relationship status has remained a mystery since then, though it's implied the two will likely reconcile down the line. When it was announced that Drew and Williams would return for the Grey's Anatomy season 18 finale, many assumed the episode would provide a long-awaited update on their characters' romance.
