Warning: This post contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 1.
Ms. Marvel episode 1 is packed with Easter eggs and plot devices that ask at least seven big questions about the MCU. The first episode of six planned for the Disney+ series, «Generation Why» introduces Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as the titular Ms. Marvel. Its 50-minute runtime is filled with mysteries about Kamala and her family and subtle hints at what has been going on on Earth since Avengers: Endgame.
Sixteen-year-old Kamala lives in Jersey City with her mother, Muneeba (Zenobia Shroff), her father, Yusuf (Mohan Kapur), and her soon-to-be-married brother, Aamir (Saagar Shaikh). She's obsessed with all things Avengers—especially Carol Danvers—and has plans to go to the first-ever AvengerCon with her best friend, Bruno (Matt Lintz). Ms. Marvel episode 1 centers itself less on superheroics and more on Kamala's struggles to be true to herself while making her traditional parents happy, but still makes plenty of time for her preparations for cosplaying as Captain Marvel at AvengerCon. Kamala's hero-worship of Captain Marvel leads to her wanting to make her Captain Marvel cosplay extra special, so she includes a bangle that was sent to her by her mysterious grandmother. However, when she puts on the bangle for the first time at AvengerCon, something inside her triggers and she manifests superpowers.
