The similarities between Ms. Marvel's and Captain Marvel's powers, with Kamala Khan's clear admiration for the hero in her Ms. Marvel series, may have viewers wondering if she will ever take over the role of Captain Marvel in the MCU. Kamala is an Avengers superfan trying to juggle high school, strict parents, and her newly discovered superpowers. Ms. Marvel episode 1 shows Kamala shooting energy blasts from her fists while dressed as her favorite hero, Captain Marvel, but is she actually set to replace Carol Danvers in the future?
Ms. Marvel made some changes to the character from the comics, mainly regarding her set of powers. In her debut comic book, Kamala's inhuman abilities allowed her to stretch and compress her body, shapeshift, and heal herself whenever in her normal form. The Ms. Marvel show changed these powers so that instead she summons crystallized beams of energy. This decision may have at least partly been made to avoid running into the same issue as She-Hulk's controversial CGI. It also could have been motivated by a desire to align Kamala's abilities more closely with Captain Marvel's.

Much of Kamala's journey in the comics was learning to embrace her own brand of superheroism, growing into her role as Ms. Marvel instead of trying to imitate, or even replace, Carol.
