While the Hulk is a truly terrifying member of the Avengers given his unparalleled strength and sheer unpredictability, there is one other mighty hero of Earth who Iron Man actually finds even scarier.
The Avengers’ roster has had no shortage of terrifyingly powerful members since the team was first introduced in Avengers #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The original lineup alone had a number of intimidating beings including Hulk, Thor, and Ant-Man. While Ant-Man may seem out of place in terms of being as fear-inducing as a literal god or a giant rage monster, Hank Pym’s mind is something that should be feared as it was he who created Ultron and constantly comes up with other fantastical yet widely dangerous gadgets that could bring the world to its knees if they were to fall into the wrong hands. Since then, the Avengers have recruited increasingly more terrifying heroes to join them, like a day-walking vampire with Blade, an emotionally unstable and immortal killing machine with Wolverine, and a literal demon with Ghost Rider. However, according to Iron Man, none of them hold a candle to the fearsome Captain Marvel.

In Captain Marvel #1 by Kelly Thompson and Carmen Carnero, Carol Danvers makes her return to the superhero scene by fighting some sort of sea monster resembling a Kraken. After she defeats the beast, Iron Man approaches her and asks to speak with her about her plans moving forward now that she is back on Earth and plans to remain an earthbound hero, at least for the time being. During their meeting, Tony asks Carol about rejoining the Avengers, and Danvers responds by asking Stark why she was talking to him about her Avengers
