Publisher PlaySide and developer Fumi Games have unveiled a Spike-D gameplay trailer for their Steamboat Willie-like first-person shooter, Mouse, revealing some of the mechanics players can use to give their enemies the old one-two.
The footage, published as part of the Triple-i Initiative Showcase, goes over three of the tools players can use to get around: the Grappling Hook, Helicopter, and the PowerUp Spinach. The Grappling Hook and Helicopter both utilize rodent abilities to gain the high ground and float to the floor with ease. They offer interesting traversal options we haven’t seen from Mouse yet, while the spinach channels Popeye to give players the strength to execute some deadly melee combos.
It's a video that shows off even more from the old-timey FPS, and you can see it for yourself below:
Mouse follows in the footsteps of games like Cuphead to give classic gameplay formulas an old-school coat of paint. In addition to bringing players a new look at how the project is coming along, PlaySide and Fumi are giving fans a place to communicate by launching an official Discord. The space also serves as a hub where the developers can talk to and learn from those who want Mouse to succeed.
“Mouse is incredibly important to all of us here at Fumi Games, and we’re committed to making sure that it lives up to expectations,” Fumi CEO Mateusz Michalak said in a statement. “Our goal has always been to create a game that combines our passion for animation with our passion for first-person shooters. We are genuinely committed to collaborating closely with the MOUSE community to craft a game that truly resonates with players. We'll aim to share more details - whenever possible - as development progresses. Our partner PlaySide and our dedicated and talented team is working hard to bring you the finest grandboomer cartoon shooter ever created!”
Mouse is set to bring its cartoon noir story to PC players in 2025. For more from Fumi, be sure to check out the team’s December
