Developed by a passionate indie team of 20, the Monsters and Memories is described as a love letter to classic MMOs, multi-user dungeons, computer RPGs, and the team at Niche Worlds Cult wants like-minded players to join them in their upcoming test.
In a lengthy Reddit post, the team details many of the important features that sets the game apart from the more modern MMORPGs of today. There’s an emphasis on a slower, more deliberate pace, incentives to build lasting social interactions, and a sense of immersion that the team feels has been lacking in other games. The developers are currently working on their Proof of Concept, which they report is now 70% complete. Once they finalize their proof of concept Niche Worlds Cult will scale the content based on their acquired data from their testing phase, ensuring a more authentic experience for players.
One of the primary pillars of their development cycle is the use of community engagement. The team has been live streaming their progress consistently for three years and have now accumulated more than 400 videos on their YouTube channel. They have also maintain a detailed monthly update system which includes a roadmap.
