Big things are in store for twin-stick actioner Rusted Moss, which confirmed console plans and a major update promising seven to eight hours of new content.
The grapple-happy Metroidvania from developers faxdoc, happysquared, and sunnydaze originally hit PC on April 12, 2023. Next up for the game is a release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in spring 2024. The team has been working on a big chunk of content that was originally planned for sometime in Q4 2023, but it’s being pushed back to coincide with the console launch due to “development and porting adjustments.”
The update will launch on Steam around that time and will be available in the console versions along with all other previously-released updates. As for what the update entails, there are two new areas, over 300 new rooms, and a Boss Rush Mode. There’s also a Maya Mode, which lets you play through as Maya for a taste of a new play style. Speedrun mode rules apply there, so just don’t expect any new dialogue additions or endings.
A short teaser was released along with the announcement to show off a tiny slice of new footage:
The footage may be brief, but it definitely sounds like there’s a lot for players to look forward to when the update launches. “As you can see, we have probably enjoyed making this update a little too much,” the devs said in the announcement. The additional time will give them a chance to finalize code and QA test for consoles, so a little more patience should pay out nicely.
