Capcom has announced that its recently released Sunbreak expansion for Monster Hunter Rise has already shipped 2 million units worldwide.
Sunbreak was released on June 30 and in less than a week has already passed the 2 million milestone.
Coinciding with this accomplishment, Capcom has also stated that the base Monster Hunter Rise game has now shipped 10 million units worldwide.
Assuming the figures are accurate, this means roughly 20% of Rise players have bought the DLC in its first week.
Capcom notes that the Monster Hunter series has now sold a total of 84 million units, with Monster Hunter World easily holding the record for best-selling Capcom game of all time.
World has now shipped 21 million units to date, compared with Capcom’s second best-selling game, Resident Evil 7, which sold 10.8 million as of the end of March 2022.
Capcom says it “will continue to leverage its digital strategy going forward, aiming to maximize unit sales with ongoing promotions, including the continued release of free additional content and pricing strategies.”
On the day Sunbreak was released, Monster Hunter Rise broke its all-time Steam concurrent player record, hitting 194,459 players – significantly higher than Rise’s PC launch week numbers of 134,262.
Since then, the record has been surpassed again, with its current all-time Steam concurrent player record standing at 231,360.
In order to play the expansion, users are required to own the base Monster Hunter Rise game, which was released for Switch in March 2021 and for PC in January 2022.
