And just like that, change is upon us. Microsoft unveiled their new Xbox Game Pass Core today, which will replace Xbox Live Gold in September.
The new service will provide access to more than 25 games, intended to replace the old Games with Gold. Microsoft intends to add new games two to three times per year. Players who received Xbox One games through Games with Gold can still access those games as long as they remain a Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate member. All Xbox 360 titles redeemed through Games with Gold will remain in your library even if you do not subscribe to Game Pass.
Like Xbox Live Gold, the new Game Pass Core will also be required for online multiplayer. There will also be specific deals and discounts exclusive to those subscribed to the service. Game Pass Core will be $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year. Existing Xbox Live Gold subscriptions will automatically change to Game Pass Core.
“Here’s the bottom line. If you’re a Gold member, you don’t need to change anything. Nothing with your subscription will change, no action is needed on your part. Same if you’re an Ultimate member…no action needed,” said Megan Spurr, Community Lead for Xbox Game Pass, in a video. “Soon you’ll have more details on the core collection of games that you can access the entire time you’re a Game Pass Core member. This includes a select catalog of games from the full curated Game Pass library like Forza Horizon 4, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Grounded, Fallout 4, and more.”
Microsoft didn’t release the full list of games, but here are the ones confirmed as part of Game Pass Core for now:
