Michael Douglas played Hank Pym in 2023’s , and if it were up to him, that would’ve been his last time playing the character.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The View (via Entertainment Weekly), Douglas revealed that he approached Marvel Studios and requested to be killed off in the movie, and in a big way with tons of special effects.
“[Getting killed off] actually was my request for the third one,” Douglas said. “I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up [for a fourth].”
Douglas’ character ended up not being killed in the movie, leaving the character of Pym’s status up in the air for future Marvel Cinematic Universe entries.
Despite it serving as an origin story of sorts for Kang the Conqueror, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was extremely divisive upon its launch. The film received mostly mixed reviews from fans and critics alike.
In the year following its launch, the MCU would see a shake up of sorts, with Jonathan Majors being let go from his role as Kang, and Marvel looking to slow down their output in an effort to focus on quality.
