As The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel enters season 4, the events of Amazon Prime Video's Emmy-winning comedy series only take place in a timeframe of fewer than 2 years. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls),The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam «Midge» Maisel, a Jewish New York City housewife who becomes a stand-up comic after he husband Joel (Michael Zegen) leaves her for his secretary. Alex Borstein also stars as Susie Myerson, Midge's manager, Tony Shaloub as Midge's father, Abe Weissman, and Marin Hinkel as Midge's mother Rose Weissman.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel spans the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s but the series also uses numerous flashbacks to before the events of season 1 depicting the beginning of Midge and Joel's on-again-off-again marriage. Midge was born Miriam Weissman in 1933 and she attended Bryn Mawr College in the early 1950s, where she majored in Russian literature. Midge met Joel while they were in college and they married in 1954. The Maisels also had two children, Ethan (played by Nunzio and Matteo Pascale), who is 3 years old in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 1, and Esther (Cadence and Kiera Magura), who is a baby when the series begins. Joel was a vice president at Tri-Borough Plastics who had ambitions (but not the talent) of becoming a stand-up comedian, but he was secretly having an affair with his secretary, Penny Pann (Holly Curran).
