After being absent from the franchise for nearly five years, Martin Freeman opens up about his reported Marvel Cinematic Universe return in Secret Invasion. Freeman made his debut in the ongoing comic book franchise with Captain America: Civil War as Everett K. Ross, the Deputy Task Force Commander of the Join Counterterrorism Center who is working with the Tony Stark team to bring in Bucky Barnes. Ross would return in Black Panther a few years later, crossing paths with Chadwick Boseman's titular hero during a black market arms sale involving Ulysses Klaue and is brought back to Wakanda for medical treatment and helps in their fight against Killmonger.
Secret Invasion acts as an adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu's comic storyline of the same name, in which the world learns that the shapeshifting aliens the Skrulls have infiltrated a variety of aspects on Earth, including government and replacing major heroes. Samuel L. Jackson is returning to lead the cast as Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill and Don Cheadle as Rhodey as well as the MCU debuts of Kingsley Ben-Adir as the show's main villain and Olivia Colman, Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke and Carmen Ejogo in undisclosed roles. Word has swirled about another MCU recurring player returning for Secret Invasion and now the actor is opening up about their possible return.
