The cast of the Magnum P.I. reboot has shared their reactions to the show being picked up at a new network. Magnum P.I., which is a Hawaii-set crime procedural series, originally starred Tom Selleck in the title role and ran on CBS for eight seasons between 1980 and 1988. Exactly three decades after the show went off the air, the network rebooted the series with Suicide Squad star Jay Hernandez in the lead role. The cast of the reboot series also includes Zachary Knighton, Amy Hill, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and British actress Perdita Weeks. Throughout its four seasons, the show has also featured frequent crossovers with the reboot of Hawaii Five-0.
The Magnum P.I. season 4 finale, «Close to Home,» aired on May 6, 2022. Although the show was a ratings success, it was abruptly canceled that same month due to CBS and NBC Universal failing to negotiate to maintain the rights. The show was left in limbo for nearly two months, before it was announced that NBC would be picking up the series, renewing it for a ten-episode season 5 and season 6.
