LittleBigPlanet 3’s servers will remain offline permanently, Sony has confirmed. The servers first went down earlier this year as a temporary measure, due to technical issues. However, Sony has stated that due to the ongoing difficulties the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers will remain offline forever. This now means that there are now no LittleBigPlanet games online, which means players can no longer access the millions of levels that have been created over the years.
In a statement, Sony wrote, “Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely. All online services including access to other players’ creations for LittleBigPlanet 3 are no longer available. User generated content (UGC) stored locally on your PS4 will remain available. Any new UGC you create can be played on your PS4 but not shared. Offline features such as the campaign will remain playable.”
LittleBigPlanet 3 was the last mainline LittleBigPlanet game that followed and built upon the foundations set by LittleBigPlanet, encouraging creativity and sharing of levels. Developer Media Molecule then expanded on its ideas in Dreams, and took those lessons onto a wider scale. The LittleBigPlanet series catapulted Sackboy into an iconic PlayStation character, leading to the release of Sackboy: A Big Adventure in 2020. LittleBigPlanet was first released in 2008, followed by its sequel in 2011, and LittleBigPlanet 3 in 2014.
In our review, Stefan wrote, “LittleBigPlanet 3 is a quite major step forward for the series. The story might not explore all of the potential, but briefly shines a light on what the new possibilities might be for those making their own levels. The wide array of new tools, the removal of limitations and addition of new characters and power-ups will all serve to empower the community to reach new heights.”
