Since, there's some inevitable overlap between lore-based tiers and pull rarities, but they're not always a perfect match. Here's how both stats work, how they line up with one another, and why players need to pay attention to them.
First, every character in is sorted into a rank based on their strength as a Hunter. The manhwa, anime, and video game are set in a world in which monsters pose an ever-present threat to humanity. In an effort to defend against their attacks, people can become Hunters — awakened beings with magic powers. These powers give Hunters a fighting chance against deadly monsters, but they also allow them to close the gates that monsters use to travel between the human world and the enigmatic dungeons in which they originate.
Borne out of the necessity of defending people against monsters, a worldwide, billion-dollar industry was developed to organize and compensate Hunters. This industry sorts Hunters into ranks based on the strength of their powers, using a standard system in which the S-rank represents the strongest Hunters, and the E-rank the weakest Hunters. Rankings affect how much each Hunter is paid, as well as what kind of jobs they're called up for. Most Hunters fall into the lower tiers, as the kinds of powers that necessitate an S or A ranking are uncommon.
