Rumor: Wii U Exclusive from 2015 Could Be Making a Comeback on Switch

It's looking increasingly likely that the 2015 Wii U exclusive Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is coming to the Nintendo Switch at some point in the near future. It's no secret that the Wii U was a sales failure for Nintendo, and so the company's decision to port many of the platform's biggest exclusives to the Switch made a lot of sense.

The Switch has enjoyed all kinds of Wii U ports since 2017, starting with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was released simultaneously on both platforms. In fact, one of the Switch's most successful games, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, was originally a Wii U game. The Wii U's failure really helped bolster the Switch library, with ports of games like Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze going a long way to help ensure that the Switch never endured a content drought quite like the Wii U did.

There are still some Wii U exclusives that have yet to find new life on other platforms, with one such game being Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse was originally released in 2015 and earned somewhat mixed, but mostly positive reviews from critics at the time. A successor to the acclaimed Nintendo DS game Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse was known for its claymatian art style and co-op support. Now, a new trademark filed in Australia has suggested that Kirby and the Rainbow Curse could be making a comeback on the Switch.

As spotted by Vooks, a new Australian trademark for Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush (the PAL name for Kirby and the Rainbow Curse) has been filed even though the other one already exists. This, combined with the earlier Kirby and the Rainbow Curse trademark renewal, does seem to suggest that Nintendo is preparing to do something with the game at some point. This is entirely speculation at this time, but the most logical conclusion is that Kirby and the Rainbow Curse could be gearing up for a Nintendo Switch port.
