Hideo Kojima showed up at this year's Game Awards to reveal OD, a new Xbox project in collaboration with Get Out director Jordan Peele. The tagline, "for the players and the screamers", and Peele's involvement points to it being horror-related, but there wasn't much else to go off of aside from a few eerie headshots of actors who will star in the game. However, fans have dug deeper and found some classic cryptic Kojima easter eggs that they think are teasing a new Silent Hill.
For context, Kojima was hired to develop Silent Hills in 2012. It even had a playable teaser called PT that became one of the most beloved horror games of all time. Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus, who would later work with Kojima on Death Stranding, were involved, with Reedus playing the protagonist.
At The Game Awards 2015, Geoff Keighley called out Konami for not allowing Kojima to attend the event to accept any awards for Metal Gear Solid 5.
Konami fired Kojima, so del Toro and Reedus walked, leading to the project's cancellation. PT was even removed from the PlayStation store. If OD is indeed teasing Silent Hill, we're looking at a reunion fans have been asking for for nearly a decade.
Fans spotted that each actor in the teaser has a letter hidden in their mouth. Put these letters together and you spell "Atami", a city in Japan southwest of Tokyo. That might seem completely random, but as pointed out by Central Xbox on Twitter, if you separate the Japanese Kanji, you get the letters 静 and 岡, which translate to silent and hill. Weird coincidence, right?
