Lego has been making Star Wars sets for 25 years, and it seems the two will be collaborating more than ever this year to celebrate that milestone. Adding to the rumors that a new Death Star set will launch this year is news that an additional two sets, both pulling from very popular areas of a galaxy far, far away, will join it. Best of all for Knights of the Old Republic fans, one of those sets will include a Darth Malak Minifigure.
Incredibly blurry images of a new R2-D2 set and another that recreates the iconic Boarding the Tantive scene from the start of the first Star Wars movie surfaced online at the end of last week, and then Amazon listings for both confirmed their existence and provided a better and clearer look (thanks, Brick Fanatics). The R2-D2 set appears to be smaller than previous sets starring the droid, but as noted, the one thing the set will hold over its bigger Lego siblings is Darth Malak.
A lot of Star Wars characters have been turned into Minifigures over the last two and a half decades, but this is a first for Malak. Although included with the R2 set - which is rumored to cost $100 and include just north of 1,000 pieces - Malak will have his own platform on which to stand complete with a 25th anniversary Lego Star Wars anniversary logo on it, much like the Minifigures sold for the 20th anniversary. He will also be holding his red lightsaber, because of course.
No surprise inclusions in the Boarding the Tantive set. The only surprising thing about it is how long it has taken to become a reality. You'd think a scene so synonymous with cinema, let alone just Star Wars, would have received the Lego treatment long ago, especially since it was turned into Lego virtually for The Skywalker Saga in 2022. There appear to be seven Minifigures with this second set including another anniversary addition - Fives from Clone Wars.
The most exciting element of Star Wars' new Lego sets tends to be the Minifigures they include. As exciting as the aforementioned
