Kirby and the Forgotten Land is making big changes to one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises. It's shifting Kirby from 2D to fully explorable 3D environments, a first for the pink ball. But that's not all that Nintendo plans to change in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. A new gameplay trailer shown during Wednesday's Nintendo Direct revealed that Kirby himself will have a few new tricks up his sleeve. Not only will Kirby be able to copy enemy abilities, but he'll also be able to swallow objects and use them in unique and powerful ways.
The new Kirby and the Forgotten Land trailer features Kirby devouring an assortment of large objects and then using their respective traits as power-ups. Perhaps the most significant of these power-ups features Kirby swallowing a vehicle. Not only does this transform Kirby into the shape of a car, but it allows him to travel around as if he was a wheeled vehicle himself.

Kirby eats a diverse selection of objects during the new trailer, beyond just the vehicle. He eats a vending machine, which allows him to spit cans of juice out of his mouth at enemies, a traffic cone, which Kirby uses to break a hole in a leaky pipe, a scissor-lift, that allows Kirby to reach elevated locations, and more. Rings, lightbulbs, flying archs, and other objects will be found spread throughout the world of the Forgotten Land for Kirby to add to his arsenal.
One last interesting aspect of this new feature sees Kirby hooking himself up to a water pipe and filling himself up like a water balloon.
