The developers ofPUBG: Battlegrounds have revealed that Zombie Survival mode is returning in a social media post. Not only is the much-enjoyed mode coming back, but it's in the form of a newly revamped version called Zombie Survival 2.0.
PUBG: Battlegrounds, the strange retitling of the game formerly known as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, has long been a popular game. It was the first to popularize the battle royale mode before Fortnite pivoted to copy the style, and it became a massive franchise even as a paid title. But now that the game has become a free-to-play title, PUBG: Battlegrounds has experienced massive player growth as players who were perhaps skeptical of paying full retail for the game have jumped in now that it's free. The growth rate exploded to 500% following its relaunch.
PUBG: Battlegrounds is Now Officially Free to Play
The original PUBG: BattlegroundsZombie Survival mode was a co-op horde mode that featured 10 stages with a time limit of three minutes each. To progress to the next stage players had to kill every single zombie or have at least one player alive at the end of the time limit. The zombies would spawn at the game's start, and increase and get stronger as the stages progressed. There were even zombies with special abilities to offer unique challenges.
There’s no word on a release date for Zombie Survival 2.0, or what’s been changed in the mode to justify giving it a new version number. But PUBG: Battlegrounds has long been a fan of horror events, such as the multiple PUBG Halloween events that took place last year.
