He may not look like a guy with a plan, but more often than not, the Joker is prepared for any number of eventualities, including his own death. The Clown Prince of Crime has made it his life’s mission to be the number one nuisance of Batman. However, his plan to haunt Gotham years after his death may be his most disturbing idea ever.
Despite his love of chaos and the unexpected punchline, the Joker has often been portrayed as being just as methodical as his archenemy. Joker’s particular schemes are often built on the pain and torment of those involved, with little concern for his own well-being beyond his ability to inflict further horrors. However, just because Joker is motivated by such ghoulish instincts doesn't mean his plans can't be shockingly ambitious in their execution.

One story took the Joker’s long-term planning to the extreme in Batman: Digital Justice. The computer-generated story came from the minds of Pepe Moreno, Doug Murray, and Bob Fingerman. Set near the end of the twenty-first century, the story centers around Commissioner Jim Gordon's grandson, James, who is investigating the cause behind the Gotham PD's malfunctioning robotic officers, known as Servocops. It seems as though the long-dead Joker is behind the brewing chaos involving the city's vast digital empire, but Gordon discovers the truth after a bit more detective work. It turns out that, in his old age, the Joker coded a virus that would cripple and destroy a future Gotham dependent on technology. The living malware even had an unsettling avatar resembling the Joker to mock those who challenge him.
