Creator Alex Proyas hints that Kiefer Sutherland could return for his in-development Dark City TV show and expresses his hope for his return. Sutherland starred in the 1998 neo-noir sci-fi thriller as Daniel Schreber, a doctor working for an extraterrestrial race known as the Strangers and experimenting on humans to analyze their individuality. Dark City primarily revolved around amnesiac John Murdoch as he learns the true nature of the titular location and the Strangers and fights to save the humans trapped by the group.
Alongside Sutherland, the cast for Dark City included Rufus Sewell as Murdoch, Jennifer Connelly, Richard O'Brien, William Hurt, Ian Richardson, Bruce Spence, Colin Friels and Melissa George. Though bombing at the box office on release, Dark City received strong reviews and has since developed a cult following for its unique aesthetic, concept, visual effects and direction, with some even favoring it over the similar film The Matrix released the following year. This cult following has led to Alex Proyas looking to expand his Dark City universe and now he's sharing hopes for one major star to return.
