Warning: Contains spoilers for Jane Foster & The Mighty Thor 1
Marvel Comics' new Jane Foster series just proved that her Valkyrie powers are much more interesting than her abilities as Thor. When holding Mjolnir, Jane has all the standard powers of the God of Thunder, but as Valkyrie she can see and perceive people's deaths, an ability that proved incredibly versatile and useful.
Jane Foster began her career in comic books as the love interest of Donald Blake, Thor's human alter-ego who recently came back as a villain. Over the years, their love disappeared but the two remained good friends, even if Jane decided to stay away from gods and superheroes to pursue her own medical career. Everything changed when Thor became unworthy of wielding Mjolnir after a battle with Nick Fury. The hammer telepathically called out to Jane, who was able to pick it up and transform into the new Thor. Jane's new superhero career was hindered by her fight against cancer, and in the end, she sacrificed her life to save Asgard from the Mangog, sending the foul creature and Mjolnir into the Sun. Without the hammer, Jane's human body succumbed to her illness, but her departure would be brief. Thor and Odin's combined efforts were able to bring Jane back to life, transforming her into the new Valkyrie after the original ones were slaughtered by the forces of Malekith.
